First there was The Hug, and now Tortoise is stuck and cross in The Roar. So it’s tortoise’s turn in the spotlight, in the latest hedgehog & tortoise book by Eoin McLaughlin and Polly Dunbar. In which Tortoise is upended, cross, and strikingly familiar to parents of toddlers everywhere.

There were so many things that Tortoise wanted to do.
So many games to play and rocks to climb.

Oops.

Tortoise was stuck.
Being stuck made Tortoise cross.

The Roar follows The Hug, While We Can’t Hug and The Longer the Wait the Bigger the Hug in this hugely popular series.

Illustrator Polly Dunbar is on top form in The Roar. Tortoise and Hedgehog are animals with more than a hint of toddler, drawn with joy and humour. Polly and writer Eoin McLaughlin are a practised team by now, with four books together under their belts. And unusually, we represent both of them. It’s been delightful.

The Roar is published by Faber & Faber in both the UK and the US.
