Leonie Lord's new picture book as author-illustrator Grotti stars a gorgeous, grubby little goblin. (Walker Books 2024.)

Leonie's illustrator of a number of books, amongst them The Dirty Great Dinosaur books by Martin Waddell, and Whiffy Wilson books by Caryl Hart.

After studying illustration at St Martin's in London, Leonie Lord worked for many years as an editorial illustrator.

But then she was given the chance to illustrate The Dirty Great Dinosaur by Martin Waddell. She soon discovered illustrating picture books about dinosaurs and wolves and gorillas and otters was much more up her street.

Leonie has a large collection of fat (and extremely blunt) pencils, which she uses - together with her computer - to create her art.

She lives in Gloucestershire with her husband and two sons and an extremely untidy ghost who is always moving pencils and pencil sharpeners.

She has recently discovered the joy of telling her own stories...

Published by Alison Green Books, Sofa Dog and The Giggle Pigs are Leonie's first picture books as author and illustrator.

And now, Super Duper Penguin Slide - a rollicking story inspired by a vintage 1980s game - published by Walker.

Grotti follows in 2023, another comedic offering with Walker.

Leonie also draws delightful cottages, which she sometimes posts on Instagram.
